Dr Suzanne Ma is a highly qualified general surgeon with sub-specialty training in bariatrics, upper gastro-intestinal and hepatobiliary surgery.

Dr Ma has trained extensively through quaternary, tertiary and regional NSW and Queensland hospitals including at the St George Bariatric Centre of Excellence, currently Australia’s only centre of excellence for bariatric surgery. She completed fellowship training in bariatrics, with a focus on revisional and endoscopic weight loss surgeries. Dr Ma has attended fellowships overseas with world-renowned pioneering bariatric surgeons including Dr Bruno Dillemanns in Belgium. She has been an invited speaker at national and international conferences on her special interest of revisional bariatrics, which is now a very important niche area.

Dr Ma has a compassionate approach towards patients, excellent technical skills and has great investment in patient outcomes. She embraces a holistic multi-disciplinary care approach featuring close follow-up with herself, dieticians, exercise physiologists and psychologists. Dr Ma provides exceptional quality of care for each and every one of her patients.

Currently 80% of patients undergoing bariatric surgery are female and being female herself, Dr Ma understands the extremely sensitive nature of the condition and she forms a close caring and trusting relationship with them.
